the new year

Well it is 2007 now (I just realized it) and I feel that I am going to try to become a new person this year.

It looks like my three month contract in minneapolis is now a X month contract. This damn insurance company here has endless problems. Unfortunatly I keep thinking of things to sell them to fix these problems, so they are going to want me to stick around for as long as I can. Ive been offered other gigs, but I think that I am bound to this company for a while for ethical reasons. I'm hoping to start up my own company to take over some of the projects here, that is one of my primary goals for this year. It turns out that the most difficult thing when starting a company is finding employees.

I am buying a kayak, an tent, and a bunch of camping gear and I am going to start enjoying the outdoors on the weekends as much as I can. Instead of dropping $300-600 dollars a week on bar tabs, I am going to use that money fund outdoor adventures in the mountains or at sea.

This year I will learn german (I know the basics, I just need to finish it) and learn two more programming languages. I ended 2006 with a strong start on recreating myself. I got a new car, glasses, laptop, blackberry, suitcase/briefcase, clothes, title at work, etc. These things (along with the help of some outdoor gear) will drive who I will become this year. I am going to start eating healthier and getting more exercise too (the basic new years resolution crap).

This year I intend on traveling more too. I have so many free flights and free hotel stays from traveling every week for the last 7 months or so that I could travel to all kinds of places for free. I am going to take advantage of that this year.

Now I am off to work.

Happy marting luther king day everybody!

election day blues

**Disclaimer: this is not an anti __________ rant, this is just what is on my mind as far as politics go at the moment....

Fuck Democrats.
Fuck Republicans.

Sharks and Lizards are better.

Some election after thoughts:

Well everyone, you got what you asked for. Republicans will no longer be in charge of the country. Although over the years republicans have made a lot of mistakes, I still think that the country was better under their control than it will be under the care of the democrats. Both parties have shitty ideas. Both parties are assholes. The thing that makes me lean towards the republicans is their attention and respect toward the economy and their respect for the basic ideas this country was founded on. They have some outdated ideas when it comes to social issues viz. abortion, but exercising their views on such topics was kept in check by the strong liberal presence in the country. Republicans have their some idiosyncratic beliefs, but over all the country did pretty well in my opinion over their reign.

Now that the Democrats are in power I think that everyone should prepare for what will come next:

The dow is has risen above 12,000, this is an amazing feat for the index. Liberals have always been an opponent of "big business". I know all my friends hate "big business", but like it or not we need it to sustain the lifestyle we are accustomed to. I do not expect this bullish market to maintain Its upward trend for much longer after investors' fears are factored into market prices. This collapse of this booming market will directly impact consumers and business owners (small and large), as will increased taxes that will be implemented to try to fund existing and new failed social programs (including public education).

The amount of federal money a school receives does not directly affect how much a child learns. Liberals tend to disagree, their view is the same as most large insurance companies: If you throw enough money at a problem, it will go away. Problems go away as you throw money at them, but from personal observations I have made in the business world I know the truth. As you throw money at a problem, it just covers it up. Like a wound, if you just cover it up and do not get it treated, it gets infected and then eventually gets to a point where it becomes septic and is completely untreatable. Similar to what our public education system is becoming.

Higher educational standards are what will drive the success of the nations children. Laptops, futuristic chalkboards, pizza hut in the lunch room, new football stadiums and higher paid school administrators will NOT improve the quality of a childs education. The "no child left behind act" will also not work, as we can see with all the teachers that have been caught cheating for students just so the school meets federal standards. We need to just keep failing students until they are able to meet the requirements to go to the next grade.

Bringing our soldiers back home from iraq will be the democrats first major order of business. The democrats feel that the same soldiers they hated a year ago are now their best friends and they need to get them home. If we pull forces out now then iraq will be fucked to a point of no return. We pull our forces and the world sees that we dont finish what we accomplish. It will look like clinton is in charge of the country again (like kosovo), and people will respond as such, in the style of the USS Cole attack and the first world trade center bombing.

Sure most of the failings of this new government will go unnoticed by the media, but if you pay attention I suspect that you will see some of the things I have mentioned to become true. I do not plan on proof reading any of this, but I hope that I was able to lay it out in a coherent and flowing manner (aside from the terrible grammar and run-on sentences which I am famous for).

and by the way. I am not happy about Amendment 1 getting passed in SC today. That is a great blow to the constitution and the foundation this country was built on. I sure do wish that voters were not as retarded as they appear to be.

-kevin

Snakes on a plane was really good. I got season 1 of House...the best show ever. Columbia was fun last week. I got paid. I bought a khaki sports coat. A 55 year old man tried to fight me at work today. Work is fun. I took some good myspace pics. My cellphone is dumb.

I got into minneapolis last night at 1:45 CST and didnt get to my hotel until 3. I am getting tired of delayed flights...I dont get why airports cant just send people places on time...a little rain is not going to crash a plane. I found out a few days ago that they are building a lounge in my hotel...so now I will never have to leave the hotel for anything. My alarm didnt go off this morning, so I called my boss and informed him that I would not be in until 1 or so. not this week, but next I am taking off two days and I will be in columbia from thursday - sunday. that saturday I will probably take all of my real friends out to newbrookland for drinks to celebrate me getting my first paycheck..there will be a confirmed announcement of this event on myspace when I figure everything out. .which is taking forever. the movie lady in the water was not scary..the sprinklers were terrifying though....it was interesting though. On the plane there was this fat dork sitting next to me who wouldnt shut up about his travels to europe and japan. I blocked him out with 5 whiskey and waters and channel 67 on XM radio. Last week was shark week on the discovery channel....It was so awesome..there was a special myth busters episode about sharks.

Minneapolis is a dumb place...It flooded today and all of these retarded yankees didnt know how to drive in the rain. After I got off work, me and the other consultants drove around in the flooding streets for an hour looking for a liquor store...we couldnt find one,so we went back to the hotel to ask the guy at the front desk where one was....we now officially have whiskey. (that we charged to IBM as an business expense). I will most likely be flying to columbia every weekend, which sucks because I have to fly into charlotte first and then get to columbia somehow every week. Snakes on a Plane is coming out soon...im excited about it.

I have an interview with an insurance company in philadelphia at some point this week or next week for a 4 month gig working for some indian programmers that are desparate for me to help them out(and are willing to pay out the ass for me).

Every night I dream about work. ClassCodes, XML extracts, VBA code, and random numbers are all I think about. I've been working 10+ hour days for the last week. They have me on three different projects. Which means that I have three different bosses and multiple laptops to keep track of. And I have three times the amount of work to get done, but I dont have enough time in the week to get everything I would like to get done finished, because I am not allowed to work over 40 hours a week. So I have to tell my different superiors that I cant have different things done when they want them because I have other obligations to other projects I am part of. I've been getting headaches everyday and living off energy drinks. I sit in my uncomfortable office chair and stare at my dual screen computer setup (aside from various meetings I attend) for the entirety of my work day. Lunch breaks have not been in my volcabulary for the last week and will not be for weeks to come. My life is "The Office". I seriously love my job and I am glad I grew up faster than most people do.

I confirmed my assumptions that I am a devine being this morning. SO I woke up, still intoxicated, and decided that I should drink some water. I put on my jacket (no shirt of course) to walk out of my room and it felt really heavy. I looked in the pockets and realized that all the pockets were filled with unopened cans of beer (which I proceeded to drink). I realized that I was truely amazing at this point.

Snakes on a WHAT??!?>!?!?

Tonight was pretty sick. I have a new found love for some of Rod Stewart's songs viz. Maggie May....it is so sick.. I decided that Huger St. (the scene portion of it) is a black hole filled with uneventful occurrences. My olde friends dont call me ever, so I only hangout with my new friends now. Lizards are pretty cool. I like genies a lot. I still highly recommend listening to damian marley. Anyone who limits their musical tastes by genres or by what band is cool to listen to in their group of friends is a faggot (or for those of you who are offended by such language....the term douchebag could describe them too)....I am enjoying my life and have no complaints....people need to learn how to enjoy life instead of being miserable and complaining about things and being so fucking negative.

So I would highly reccomend to everyone to go to Gervais & Vine at some point in their life (its next to carolina wings in the vista). The wine is extremely over priced and the food is absurdly expensive..its awesome. People went there tonight for Claire's burf-day and it was interesting. Since it is primarily a wine bar, all they have is appitizers, which I believe you are expected to order atleast two of but it is awesome.

I realized today that the acronym for snakes on a plane is SOAP, which was entertaining for about 15 mins.

Contrary to popular belief, dusty is not terrible. I ended up hanging out with him for a majority of the day and he is a decent person. This was my first time hanging out with him when he was sober. He got drunk on my front porch though....then he became kinda terrible.

My friend nick said the funniest thing ive heard in at least a month today: "dude, I would go down on pandora's box".....it was hilarious.

I'm still looking forward to snakes on a plane coming out..and Damian Marley's album Jamrock is still one of the best albums to come out in the bast 5 years.

As joe walsh would say "life is good".

Second: Damian Marley's album "Jamrock" is so fucking good, even to non-hippies like myself.

In case you were not aware, today is a day to celebrate two very special occasions: First off, it is April 20th. Otherwise known as 4/20, as in 4:20. Second is that this glorious holiday for weed is also the birthday of Hitler. I speculate that when he was born he would have failed a drug test if one would have been administered.

Snakes on a motha' fuckin' plane!

For a while now I have been trying to think of something to write about on here, but have drawn a blank each time.

I'm going to new york for a week during the latter half of May because I can. I'm working on an independent study of turbulance and complex systems to be an asshole. Work is going very well, im waiting on the projects in atl to start up (it takes forever for things to get going in a corporation). Most music bores me now.

SNAKES ON A PLANE starring samuel l. jackson is coming out this year.... www.snakesonablog.com is the best place to get hilarious info about it. The preview for it looks fucking amazing.

Im going to try to cut down the amount of chicken I eat and eat more red meat because of this scientist I read about, here is a quote from a book I read : "He worked two months without pause. His functional day was twenty-two hours.... His diet was strictly coffee. (Even when healthy and at peace, Feignbaum subsisted exclusively on the reddest possible meat, coffee, and red wine. His friends speculated that he must be getting his vitamins from cigarettes.)" This diet sounds like the most conservative diet ever.

So I was reading Maxim this week and I came across an interesting little write up of everyone's favorite band "Cat Power". To my suprise, Maxim gave Cat Power a stunning review, glorifying this underground indie band. Is shitty indie rock becoming popular?...I then thought that maybe Maxim was just reviewing obscure bands this month, but no...They did not review any other underground bands at all, in fact, the other bands reviewed were: lil flip, yellow card, and morningwood. I now consider cat power to be in the same genre as those groups. Now I can say that the reason why I dont like cat power is because they are too mainstream.

Me and tim are back into the idea of turning our house into a military fort. Redecorating will take place this weekend, then we will have people over to see the rennovations.

Work has been amazingly sick, im taking this training class with 10 people who are all "senior level consultants" for Docucorp and I know the software better than them (and they are all 10+ years older than me). This of course has boosted my confidence in myself by 10 fold (as if It could get any higher).

I realized that I only have time to eat one meal a day...I never paid much attention to how much I eat, but for the past few months, I have only eaten dinner or lunch, because breakfast is immature and for children. And anyone who likes instant oatmeal is retarded.

Im gonna start wearing sunglasses at night for novelty.

Today I had the brilliant idea that the traffic meanuver reffered do as an "right on red", can be interperted to be different from the traditional definition. I think that it means that if you are stopped by a red light, you can do no wrong...everything you say or do is right for those few minutes. You can make the decision to run it and you will be in the right for the few seconds you are under it. I believe this defense would stand up in court. If you murder someone while you are stopped at a red light, It is legal I would think.

cat power sucks. the faint sucks. pavement sucks. bloc party sucks.

I have tried listening to all of the above bands and they all are terrible. I assert this with 90% certainty, as I have downloaded and attempted to listen to the aforementioned bands within the last hour and came to the conclusion that they are all bad. The only possible way for me to like these bands or claim to like them at least, would be for me to become a scene douche I believe (or perhaps be under the influence of heavy narcotics). For the most part, these bands are pretty much bands you say you like to impress douches similar to yourself. If you are even more of a indie douche, then you will name drop more obscure bands….(i.e. xray specs (I don’t know if that is how they spell it), comets on fire, caribou, or for the extremely douchy… cann….or you may even start to name drop individual band members names once you reach a bursting point of douchebaggery)…

Normal people will say, “Hey… I like that band” regardless if pitchfork media or adbusters gave them a good review….most people listen to what they enjoy listening to, as opposed to what some faggot in his basement says is cool to like when he is making experimental music

Fuck you scene faggots.

(mr. josh hutto, this is not directed to you….you are not a scene faggot)

Dirigibles are so sick...I really think it would be so awesome to travel the world in the 1550s in a dirigible, or other flying contraption...perhaps a balloon...or that large dog from the neverending story....you get the point. My new laptop is fucking awesome (mostly because Macs suck and PCs are better). The movie shreck discovered one of the most conservative dirigibles out there...the one that came into existance when shreck blew up that snake like a balloon and it floated off...yeah now that was conservative...it also happened in robinhood when hiss stuck his head in a balloon and used it to float around while he used his tail as a propeller.

And Finally:

I will be announcing the winner of the "valentines day date with evil kevin (one of the most amazing beings to grace the earth)" contest on sunday. Late applications will be taken until sunday afternoon. All applications must be submitted by then to be eligible. All names of contestants will be put in a gamecocks baseball cap and then one name will be drawn at random. Please forward all late applications/entries to me via myspace.
